The South Pars oil and gas field is a huge natural gas field located in the Persian Gulf in western Asia. It is the largest known natural gas field in the world, located between Iran and Qatar. The total area of the South Pars oil and gas field is approximately 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers in the north are located in Iranian waters and are called South Pars gas fields; the remaining 6000 square kilometers in the south are located in Qatar waters and are called northern gas fields.
